A review of 50 first experiences

First 28 – the Tudors at the National Portrait Gallery

A return to one of mine and Diana’s favourite places, but I think the first time we’ve visited the Tudors. Gorgeous sumptuous velvets and brocades made the paintings glow across the room. Mindbogglingly small and long waist of Elizabeth I had me very puzzled till a helpful person pointed out that the artist would have painted the dress first and then superimposed her head and shoulders.

Marks: 10/10 for that feeling of having your veins flooded with colour that comes from great art

I turned 50 in June and have decided to write about some of the new experiences that happen to me over the next 12 months, not in a show-off way, but to remind myself (and any others that access this) that new experiences happen in all shapes and sizes. I suppose I'm looking at ways to remind myself of the positives. I'm also hoping this will spark off taking steps in a few different directions - what, I don't yet know.
